Useful Tips SectionThe Island of Major Champions
In Ireland we look back on 2011, with great pride upon the wonderful Major wins of Rory McIlroy in the US Open at The Congressional and Darren Clarke the Open at Royal St Georges. These wins followed so close to those of Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington have demonstrated the rude health of golf in Ireland - The Island of Major Champions. All the great courses upon which these champions honed their golfing skills are delighted to welcome the visiting golfer. You will not be disappointed.
In September 2012, The 86th playing of the Navy / Notre Dame game will be played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday 1st September. We offer customised combined golf / football programmes for this experience that will be a truly awesome event. We will be delighted to design personalised golf tour programmes to coincide with the football game, that will meet the expectations of all travellers, golfers and non golfers.
Whether you are looking for an exotic golf location or a low cost getaway, Irish Golf Tours will find the perfect programme for you – one that promises a unique golf experience.
We are available online, or over the phone to help you plan your next personal golf trip or corporate golf event.
We invite you to explore our redesigned website for all the essential information you need to make your golf trip a memorable experience, and look forward to hearing from you.
Classic Links - South West
Our programme to play the classic links in the South West of Ireland has been extremely popular, giving our clients an opportunity to play the world famous Ballybunion (Old)- Tralee, the first links course designed by Arnold Palmer – Greg Norman’s design at Doonbeg – the Alister McKenzie redesign at Lahinch – the ever popular Waterville Links & Old Head named as “The most spectacular course in the world” by America’s influential “ Links” magazine in 2011. These legendary courses combined with a selection of various grades of superb hotels, ensure the visiting golfer has a memorable experience on our island.
Classic Links – North
To play the world famous (ranked 5th) Royal Co. Down together with Royal Portrush, Portstewart, Castlerock & Ballyliffin is allowing visitors play the favourite courses of Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke & Graeme McDowell. There must be something very special about links courses that provided 3 major winners in a short period of 15 months. Recent clients of ours from Australia had the privilege of meeting Darren & Graeme at Royal Portrush during their golf trip - “what bragging rights”!!! Another course to be considered in the northern trip is Lough Erne, designed by Nick Faldo where Rory McIlroy has a home
and which boasts a 5* hotel – well worth a visit.
Scotland
When your name is called to the first tee at the Old Course - where the likes of Morris, Braid, Jones, Palmer, Nicklaus and Woods have teed it too - your knees will know it. Scottish golf is beautifully convenient. The clubs are clustered for the most part, often allowing you to select a single hotel from which to operate. On the west, Ayrshire Coast, you'll find Turnberry with her Ailsa [ host venue for 2009 Open Championship ] and Kintyre Courses, Royal Troon, Western Gailes, Glasgow Gailes, Dundonald, and the historical Prestwick [ venue for the first Open Championship ].
On the east coast, St. Andrews is flush with seven courses, including the new Castle Course, plus neighbouring Kingsbarns, Crail, and St. Andrews Bay with The Devlin and Torrance courses. Slightly north, a collection featuring Carnoustie also includes Panmure, Montrose and Monifieth. An hour west is renowned Gleneagles, one of the world’s most respected hotels and home to some of James Braid’s finest work. The Scottish Highlands are highlighted by world #15, Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Castle Stuart, Nairn Dunbar, Brora, Moray and Tain are longstanding favourites of northern visitors who are also certain to enjoy Royal Aberdeen and, Cruden Bay on the way up or back.

Thank You
We are now celebrating the 18th Anniversary of the commencement of business at Irish Golf Tours Ltd. For me it has been the source of enormous personal satisfaction, to start from scratch and to arrive at where we are today. Needless to remark, I am very grateful to my colleagues for the enormous contribution they have made to our success. However it is to all our clients, who have supported us over the years, that we owe such a debt of gratitude. Without them we could not have succeeded, nor grown the company to its present position – I send a special word of thanks to you all.
Yours in golf,
